The Great Basin Naturalists at Galena Creek
The Galena Creek Visitor Center's, Great Basin Naturalists, education programs facilitate hands-on, outdoor learning for students of all ages. Our team of naturalists, or environmental educators, work to create exciting and informative educational activities that are consistent with Next Generation Science Standards and STEM principles. For some, this is their first interaction with forest ecosystems. With this in mind, the Great Basin Naturalists are committed to providing quality outdoor experiences that engage students with the environment, encourage curiosity, and promote protection and preservation of our beautiful planet. "Given a chance, a child will bring the confusion of the world to the woods, wash it in the creek, turn it over to see what lives on the unseen side of that confusion. Nature can frighten a child, too, and this fright serves a purpose. In nature, a child finds freedom, fantasy, and privacy: a place distant from the adult world, a separate peace."
